An examination of her body after death
by Glen Colquhoun

An examination of her body after death by Glen Colquhoun is a poem about Colquhoun examining the body of a close friend’s body that has died. The important ideas of this poem is that he’s in denial and angry over his friends death. It is also about the remembrance of a loved one. The features he uses to show that he’s in denial are negatives and metaphors. He also uses the features to show his remembrance of a dear friend.

The idea that the author is in denial and anger is shown by his repetitive use of the word “not” which is a negative. An example of this is “you are not her eyes” Colquhoun says this to show he can not accept the death of this person he held so close to him. He is also saying she doesn’t look like the same now she is dead compared to when she was alive. He repetitively says the "you are not her.... " thourgh out the whole poem.

In Examination the second idea is remembrance of the loved one Colquhoun has lost. A feature that shows this is the metaphors. For example “these are broken headlights on a car:” this is show that he sees her eyes as dull and do not look as they did when she was alive. The quote “who has escaped with the shining of the sun?” means to him when she was alive her eyes shone like the sun. By both these quotes he is saying how she was so alive but now her body is dull and life less.

Examination is about Colquhoun examining the dead body of a loved one and describing how she looks different in death as she did in life using metaphors. The tone of this poem is anger and denial for the death of his loved one. The purpose of this poem was to tell the reader that she looks dull and lifeless in death but she used to be so full of life before she died.
